Using Tinker
Settings and your data
What each setting does, and where Tinker keeps your data.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Game folders | The clients Tinker manages. Add, show or forget each one. |
| Theme | Match system, Light or Dark. |
| Sync folder | The folder that holds tinker.json. See Sync between computers. |
| CurseForge account | Sign in, and link clients to sync groups. |
| Update addons automatically | Check every hour and install updates. |
| Channel for new addons | Stable, Beta or Alpha for addons you install from now on. |
| CurseForge API key | Leave it empty to use the default key. A new key applies after a restart. |
Where your data lives
| Data | Where |
|---|---|
| Settings, your addon list and the download cache | ~/Library/Application Support/Tinker on macOS, %AppData%\Tinker on Windows, ~/.config/Tinker on Linux |
| CurseForge sign-in | The system keychain: Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows, the Secret Service on Linux |
| Sync file | tinker.json in the sync folder you chose |
In the game folder, Tinker writes nothing but the addons themselves. If the CurseForge app gave a client an id in its .curseclient file, Tinker reads it and keeps it.
