Getting started
Install Tinker
Download Tinker for macOS, Windows or Linux and open it for the first time.
Get the file for your computer from the download section. Tinker is one small app with no runtime to install next to it.
macOS
- Open the disk image,
tinker-<version>-universal.dmg. - Drag Tinker to Applications.
- Open Tinker from Applications or Spotlight.
Tinker is a universal app, so it runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. It needs macOS 12 or later.
If macOS says it can't open Tinker, see Troubleshooting.
Windows
- Run the installer,
tinker-setup-<version>-amd64.exe. - Open Tinker from the Start menu.
The installer puts Tinker in your user folder, so it needs no administrator rights. Tinker draws its window with Microsoft Edge WebView2, which Windows 11 includes. On Windows 10, install the WebView2 Runtime if Tinker doesn't open.
Linux
On Debian, Ubuntu and their relatives, install the .deb. It brings GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1 with it:
sudo apt install ./tinker_*_amd64.deb
On any other distro, download the .tar.gz and install.sh into one folder, then run:
sh install.sh
This installs Tinker for your user in ~/.local, with an entry in your applications menu, and needs no root. To remove it later, run sh install.sh --uninstall. Your settings stay in place.
With the .tar.gz, install GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1 from your package manager first, such as libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0 on Debian or webkit2gtk-4.1 on Arch.
