Getting started

Find your game

How Tinker finds World of Warcraft, and how to add a game folder yourself.

When it opens, Tinker looks for World of Warcraft in the usual places:

Computer Where Tinker looks
macOS /Applications/World of Warcraft, the Public Test and Beta folders next to it, and ~/Applications/World of Warcraft
Windows The install path that the Battle.net app writes to the registry, and World of Warcraft in Program Files and Public\Games
Linux World of Warcraft in the Wine prefixes of ~/.wine, Lutris and the common ~/Games folders

Each client it finds, such as _retail_ or _classic_era_, shows up in the switcher at the top of the sidebar.

Add a game folder

If Tinker didn't find your game, or you keep it somewhere else:

  1. Open the switcher at the top of the sidebar.
  2. Choose Add game folder…
  3. Pick the World of Warcraft folder.

You can also pick one client folder, such as _retail_, or even its Interface/AddOns folder. Tinker works out which client you mean.

Flavors

Tinker reads each client's flavor from the game's own files, so it knows that _anniversary_ is Anniversary and _classic_ is Mists Classic. The flavor decides which addon files fit, and every search and update uses it.

To manage another client, pick it in the switcher. Each client has its own addons, channels and updates.

Forget a folder

In Settings → Game folders, Forget removes a client from Tinker. Its addons stay on disk, untouched.
